ダバオ市カムス出身の “DJ Love” こと Sherwin Tuna が、実家のネットカフェ脇の小部屋でBPM140 の単調な四つ打ちループを制作したのは2000年代中頃のこと。やがてそのサウンドは、ジープニーのクラクション、鳥獣の鳴き声、ホイッスル、笑い声、ネットミームなど、生活の喧騒を貪欲に取り込みながら、実家から隣家へ、隣家からストリートへ、さらに隣町へと、奇怪なダンスとともに伝染していった。こうして「Budots」と名付けられた音楽は、SNSでの爆発的拡散と政治利用を背景に、一度もクラブを経由することなく国民的 ADM へと知れ渡る。しかし、その“不真面目さ”ゆえに知識層や文化層からは毛嫌いされ、「低俗」との汚名を着せられることになる。

■DJ Love
ダバオ市カムス出身の音楽プロデューサー。2000年代初頭にフィリピンで誕生したエレクトロニック・ダンス・サウンド「Budots」を創出した第一人者である。2004年には Camusboyz Budots DanceGroup を共同設立し、その爆発的なムーブメントを牽引。反復的で中毒性の高いビートは SNS と抜群の相性を誇り、TikTok、抖音（Douyin）、YouTube などを通じて世界中へ浸透した。代表曲「TiwTiw」はTikTok だけで 5万本以上の動画に使用されている。2023年には Manila Community Radio Boiler Room に出演し、ポジティブなパフォーマンスが大きな話題に。「ブドッツ」の名を世界へ広めることに成功した。現在はヨーロッパやアジア各国のフェスティバルに招聘されるスターDJとして活躍している。

フィリピン・マニラを拠点にする音楽プロデューサー／DJ・Jorge Juan B.によるプロジェクト。かつては「similarobjects」の名で電子音楽を制作し、「Manila Community Radio」の共同創始者としても知
られる彼は、ポストモダンなクラブサウンドを通じて、秘教的で過剰主義的な音楽世界を構築する。ポップカルチャーからネットミーム、オカルティズム、ハイパーリアリズムといった領域からの影響を有機的に
混ぜ合わせながら、メインストリームのクラブ的パターンを再文脈化し、伝統とデジタル・グロテスクの境界線を曖昧にするようなサウンドを志向している。

In the mid-2000s, Sherwin Tuna—better known as DJ Love from Kamos, Davao City—began crafting monotonous 140 BPM four-on-the-floor loops in a small room next to his family’s internet café. Over time, his sound absorbed the chaos of daily life: jeepney horns, animal calls, whistles, laughter, internet memes. From his home it spread to the neighbor’s house, then to the street, then to nearby towns—always accompanied by strange dances. This music, eventually named Budots, went viral through social media and even found political uses, becoming a national form of ADM without ever passing through nightclubs. Yet, because of its “frivolous” nature, it was dismissed by intellectual and cultural elites, stigmatized as “vulgar.”

For ADM#007, alongside Budots originator DJ Love, we present a mix by obese.dogma777, who takes the sound into a new dimension under the theme of Post-Budots. Their work challenges the stagnation, elitism, and political overtones that permeate the dance music scenes of island Southeast Asia. Includes download code.


■DJ Love
DJ Love, is a trailblazing Filipino music producer from Davao City. Globally renowned for cultivating the electronic dance sound ‘Budots’ native to the Filipino archipelago’s region, DJ Love co-founded the Camusboyz budots dance group in 2004 which helped catapult the genre’s exponential movement in the early 2000s.

In the mid 2010s, Budots exploded in the Philippines. Budots became the bona fide sound of Jeepneys, malls and driveways across the entire Archipelagos. It even reached the point of being used in political campaigns and being danced to by the polarising President Rodrigo Duerte.

Nowadays, in large part due to the digital dissemination of information via social media, Budots’ reputation spreads far beyond the Philippines. Its repetitive yet attention-grabbing nature has made budots ubiquitous on short form video platforms, its sound scoring countless TikTok, Douyins and YouTube videos. DJ Love remains at the centre of this movement: classic tracks of his such as TiwTiw have racked up 50,000 creations on TikTok alone, whilst his set at the now legendary Manila Community Radio Boiler Room of 2023 is the most viewed Boiler Room from the Philippines.”

Born from the ashes and rubble of the defunct electronic music project similarobjects, obese.dogma777 emerges as a fusion of esoteric maximalism and abrasive, post-modern electronic club sounds. His output recontextualizes mainstream club tropes, infusing them with eclectic, experimental, intrusive, and abrasive sound-design elements—often conjuring dystopian sonics that feel both prophetic and deranged.

His latest muse, Post-Budots, extends this sonic language into a speculative future where hyperlocal dance music collides with hyperreality. Distorted, deconstructed, and amplified, his approach reframes Budots through a maximalist lens—blurring the lines between lowbrow and high-concept, underground and mainstream, tradition and digital grotesquery.

His work often explores speculative ideas and theories at the intersection of pop culture, net concrete, technology, occultism, meta-irony, hyperrealism, and memetics—an ever-expanding, self-consuming collage of sound and meaning.
